Venecia Carrasco on nearshoring: key insights
- One of the main factors driving the evolution of nearshoring in Latin America is getting cost-effective hiring solutions, while still working with people in similar timezones to US and Canada.
- Trend alert: Instead of hiring candidates in many different countries, there is a tendency in US companies to create remote teams based in strategic locations, so it builds better chances for eventual in-person exchanges.
- Common industries hiring in LatAm include software to service, cyber security, fintech, hospitality, customer support, and health care.
- Common remote positions hired by Baja Nearshore started as sales development representatives, account executives, and account managers. With time, it also included other roles, such as graphic designers and developers.
- Trend alert no. 2: The expectations bar for remote workers in Latin America is being raised, so there is a growing search for professionals to become increasingly specialized, and for companies to offer interesting opportunities.
- Video platforms are a must when hiring remotely. Video introductions and interviews play a key role in fitting the right candidates with the companies.
- Some of the key employee benefits to keep in mind when hiring in LatAm include paid time off, maternity and paternity leave policies, equipment when working remotely, and insurance.
- Trend alert no. 3: To better attract top talent, companies should also consider learning and development opportunities and a work-from-home stipend to offer to employees.
